2020 is the year for discovering local adventures and, luckily for us, the U.K. has an abundance of stunning coastline to explore. When it comes to beautiful beaches, the Gower Peninsula in South Wales gives even the most exotic, far-flung destinations a run for their money.
Picture-perfect sandy bays, hidden coves, and scenic coastal walks are what you can expect from Gower, located near Swansea, just 2 hours from Bristol. So whether you’re visiting for a day trip, or making a summer holiday of it, here are some of the best beaches in Gower that you cannot miss.

Rhossili Bay
Consistently ranked as one of the best beaches in Europe (and one of the top 10 beaches in the world, according to TripAdvisor!) Rhossili Bay is the Gower’s star attraction. Three glorious miles of sand, clear waters, and breathtaking views make this a beach-lover’s paradise and a must-visit along the Gower Peninsula.
And then there’s those sunsets, which are truly bucket-list worthy. Head to the Worms Head Hotel Restaurant and Bar, on the cliffside above the bay, for a sundowner with unforgettable views.

Three Cliffs Bay
I’ve been lucky enough to travel to some spectacular beaches around the world, but Three Cliffs Bay is up there among the greats. This large sandy beach is both picturesque and wild, all at once. A meandering river cuts through the beach, providing an even greater spectacle from the cliffs above. What makes Three Cliffs Bay even better is that it’s only accessible by walking a mile from Parkmill, through beautiful sand dunes and woodland, so if you’re lucky, you may well have this beach paradise all to yourself!
If you’re looking for a truly unique travel experience, check out Three Cliffs Bay holiday site, where you can pitch up your tent on the cliffs and wake up to stunning views of the bay every morning.

Langland Bay
Only a 5-minute drive from the bustling Mumbles, Langland Bay is a popular family-friendly beach and surfing spot. Iconic green and white beach huts line the beachfront, where you’ll also find Langland’s Brasserie – a lovely, relaxed lunch spot overlooking the bay.
The coastal path joins Langland Bay with neighbouring Caswell Bay and is one of the most impressive short hikes in the Gower. You can easily combine both beaches for the perfect day out.
Dog-friendly? Dogs are allowed on the beach from 1st October to 30th April only. However, you can access the coastal path with your furry friend at any time of year. Langland’s Brasserie also has a dog-friendly area all year-round, even though access to the beach itself is restricted seasonally.
Caswell Bay Beach
At the other end of the coastal path from Langland Bay is the magical Caswell Bay. This sandy beach is shrouded in lush green cliffs and forests, giving it an almost exotic, enchanting feel (it actually reminded me a lot of the coastline in Brazil!) There are public toilets, a car-park, and a small beach cafe at the entrance making this an easily accessible day out for families – however it does mean the beach can get a bit more crowded than other spots along the Gower Peninsula, especially during peak season.
Dog-friendly: Dogs are allowed on the beach from 1st October to 30th April only. However, you can access the coastal path to the side of the beach with your dog at any time of the year.
Pobbles Bay Beach
Pobbles Bay is one of the Gower’s best kept secrets. Even its name has a magical ring to it! This secluded cove can only be accessed by hiking 20-30 minutes from Southgate, near Three Cliffs coffee shop (a stunning walk along the ruggedly beautiful Pennard Cliffs and through sand dunes). Or when the tide is out, you can walk around to Pobbles Bay from Three Cliffs Bay. There are no toilets or facilities here – just pure tourist-free bliss.

Oxwich Bay Beach
Located along the south of the Gower Peninsula, Oxwich Bay is a large sandy beach, popular with families, paddle boarders, and dog-walkers. Along the beachfront, you’ll find the Beach House restaurant serving excellent, locally sourced food, and also the award-winning Oxwich Bay Hotel, which has a lovely sea-view bistro and garden bar area, open to the public.
